IBSIS-RMBS
the joint
International Biomedical Sciences Instrumentation Symposium
&
Rocky Mountain Bioengineering Symposium

organized since 1963
the oldest continuously held meeting in biomedical engineering in the world

In times where meetings and conferences are sprouting all over the globe and becoming more and more specialized, we pride ourselves for covering all aspects of biomedical engineering, from the traditional aerospace medicine and bioinstrumentation, to the latest trends in machine learning and image processing, from clinical engineering to the current challenges in engineering, clinical and patient education. If you are interested in any aspect of biomedical engineering, you will most likely find one or more relevant works presented at our annual symposium or published in our journal.

We also pride ourselves of the fact that our meetings strive to be more a symposium (as in the work with the same name by Plato, i.e., "a friendly contest of extemporaneous speeches given by a group of notable men attending a banquet") rather than a "dull" traditional conference. Attending our annual symposium is a special experience you cannot find anywhere else: you are not an attendee, you are an active participant. No matter if you are an undergraduate or graduate student, a post-doc or an established professor, or a professional, even a member of the general public, you get the same opportunity to present your work, ask and answer questions, and interact socially and professionally with everyone. Indeed, our meetings are a combination of scholarly sessions intermingled with social time where participants can really interact with each other and exchange ideas. Aspiring to be a symposium (a drinking party or convivial discussion, especially as held in ancient Greece after a banquet) meals and entertainment are usually included, as is a contest, and we strongly encourage all our attendees to participate in all activities.

Over the years several collaborations among the participants have emerged and most attendees have, at one time or another, benefited by the exchange of ideas and the opportunities offered by our symposia that have allowed research and careers to move forward. Over the years we have attracted attendees from all continents (really all of them including Antarctica, where one of our board members spent a year) and many come back year after year.
